The star rating system was devised to help people compare the level of quality between Medicare Advantage plans.
It was later stretched to also rate Part D prescription drug plans (and Medicare MSA plans). Are the criteria flexible enough to be accurate for these other plans? Maybe not!
Also, listener Steve frightens an ill-prepared sales rep peddling Medicare Disadvantage plans!

If you are over 65, actively at work and enrolled in your employer's group medical plan, don't worry about being penalized by Medicare for late enrollment at your retirement date.
An unrelated item: if your druggie friend tells you the cocaine you took was laced with fentanyl, don't just run off to the ER to check it out.
The required urine test may cost a lot more than you expected!

When loved ones died we used to plant them in the ground.
Then it became fashionable to fry them in a natural gas-fired inferno, scattering the ashen residue to the four winds.
Now we can just drag them out into the yard, garden or woods to let them feed the natural environment: compost them!

It certainly wasn't you, or even me!
The big weiners appear to be dozens of Medicare Advantage plans. They claim to be serving many sick customers whose medical needs are much greater than the norm.
When asked to prove it, they don't seem to be able to, according to the results of recent litigation filed against CMS.

At least two of the Mayo Clinic facilities (Florida and Arizona) will no longer accept patients that want to pay with Medicare Advantage plans.
In addition, there is a Medallion program which extracts $6,000 per year per participant in order to assure prompt access to the doctor of one's choice.

Anthem/Elevance Advantage plans sued by the Justice Department for fraud to the tune of $100 million.
Speculation is that the fraud of this nature amounts to $12 Billion.

Congress is considering legislation entitled: The Medicare Enrollment Protection Act. There are still other things to be aware of.
This will remove most of the negative consequences for those who inadvertently take COBRA rather than enrolling in Medicare when leaving the employer health insurance plan.
