A more successful person (or couple) with higher than average income will be subjected to a "success penalty" on some coverage.
Other surprise costs can be avoided by enrolling in a timely manner! Late enrollment penalties can go on for a lifetime.

60% of MA members are lacking plan incentives to take steps toward better management of their medical conditions.
Most rarely or never get answers from the plans to their questions.
31% don't have access to the tools that will help them cope with their conditions. This is in spite of the additional compensation paid to these plans from the US Treasury.

It seems that compelling the population of a whole state to participate in a mandatory Long Term Care insurance scheme is not as simple as they thought.
Typical of a government program, the cost is too high, the benefit is too small and the ultimate reward is too far off in the distant future.

California's continuing attempt to recreate pre-war Soviet Union (and we all know what a success that was!) will now be aimed at residents who came across the border without asking permission.
The state defines them as "older unauthorized immigrants" and the plan is to provide free medical treatment for those who are age 49+.
As soon as they can justify it, the program will be expanded to everyone in the state, in spite of the opposition that has been expressed in the past by those who understand the economic impact of such a plan.

Originally, CMS expected to be passing out this Alzheimer's drug like candy to anyone who wanted some. This was a major part of the excuse used to justify the massive increases in Medicare costs for 2022.

Prescription drug plans, no matter how carefully chosen, will not guarantee to maintain the projected out-of-pocket expenses for the entire policy year.
If the drug manufacturer raises prices, the plan will likely increase the cost sharing charged to plan participants in response.
