Thousands of retired New York City public employees have banded together and filed suit to fight the mandated enrollment into an inferior retirement plan rather than the Medicare supplement that has been the standard.
Their concerns are typical of those facing forced enrollment into this type of plan: lack of freedom of choice, budget-busting cost sharing and having to seek permission to consult with medical specialists.

Suppose you talk to a salesman who works for Al's Insurance and Aluminum Siding Co. Suppose he says Al's prescription drug plan is the very best available: reasonable cost, lots of drugs on its formulary, etc.
One problem: some of your drugs have large copays you will be stuck with all year! You won't know this until it is too late.
You just fell victim to a dopey insurance salesman who has no idea how to choose the very cheapest plan for you.
If you want to save your hard-earned cash, follow the directions here and pick out the least expensive plan for you!

In the days before Obamacare, reasonably priced health insurance had small deductibles and coinsurance, paying 100% of most catastrophic expenses.
What the heck happened? Look to the politicians.
Government bullied its way into what had been a robust and vibrant private enterprise and proceeded to ruin it for everyone else.

I suggest the method of peeling an onion. Strip back the less desirable choices like layers of skin from your onion, one by one until only the most flavorful and favorable parts are left.

Also learn about the three types of financial relationships doctors can have with Medicare plus learn what some of you might want to do during AEP each year.
Hint: no need for this extra work if you were smart enough to buy a supplement instead of an Advantage plan!

Congress is considering another self-destructive bill. This time the geniuses are proposing to give the Federal Government the power to negotiate prices for prescription drugs.
By "negotiate" they mean dictate and by "dictate" they mean to remove the profit incentive that has given us miracle drugs at affordable cost for most of the last century.

Mike wanted the cheapest Part D plan available and I identified that plan for him. Imagine the confusion that ensued after Mike accidentally enrolled in a different plan offered by the same company. Failing to get his error undone, he hauled off and chose a completely different company's offering and started the process all over again.
People, the lesson here is to rely on your agent's experience in order to avoid as much of this nonsense as possible!
But first, the Nazis lost one of their subs, the U-505, in the South Atlantic. Shhh, don't tell but I know exactly where it is!

Anything that combines "penalty" with "lifetime" is something to be avoided like the plague! Is your drug coverage considered to be "creditable"? Ask your employer or the plan administrator, they are obligated to inform you about the plan's status.
If your coverage is considered creditable, you may keep it as long as you like without risk of being ensnared by the hated lifetime penalty.
