We interrupt our holiday mirth and merriment in order to share some professional opinions in answer to queries from readers and listeners.
1) Plan N is a perfectly reasonable recommendation from one's insurance agent.
2) If you like your California doctor, purchase of a Medicare Supplement will allow you to keep seeing him. However, won't it be inconvenient after your move to South Dakota?
3) How about a Medicare MSA? Might it not turn weird someday? Answer: Maybe it will, but if it doesn't turn weird this type of plan can fill the bill for those who like cash rich account balances!

At minute 7:30 we review a report on the odds you will be able to get a plan with all of the great things Mr. Namath promises: prescriptions, meals, transportation, dental/vision and the much coveted Part B "give back".
Turns out, the odds of getting all of that in any one Medicare Advantage plan are slim to none. Once again, the hype machine is working overtime and the customers are likely to be disappointed.

Mike isn't sure which part of Medicare will cover his treatments and neither am I. Whether it will be Part B or Mike's drug plan makes a difference in the percentage Mike will have to kick in.
My solution? Ask the doctor, or maybe the office staff. It is likely they have had to find this information for previous patients. Don't reinvent the wheel!

Open Enrollment Period (OEP), January through March, is another time when you are allowed to leave an Advantage plan if it has become a problem.
The strange part is: the mental giants controlling Medicare instruct agents to keep this under their fedoras unless the client expresses distress and asks if anything can be done. Go figure, huh? The weirdness starts at minute 14:45.

A dip into the MLM Mailbag produces a question from a D.O. He wants to keep his current insurance and forego Medicare until he retires someday.
I had to reassure him that he could ignore the Medicare whores and stay the course, just as long as he remains actively employed and covered by health insurance deemed "creditable".
